- I spoke with Shula Wurmfeld last night, seeking any guidance she might have re: rehab facilities in the South Shore. I have sent the list Braintree provided to Shula, along with a list of the towns within that list that make sense geographically. She will vet the list with colleagues that know the area well (she works primarily on the North Shore) for any advice - places to avoid, particularly well regarded places, etc. She hopes to be back in touch by Thursday evening.
- I spoke with Lisa Harriman this morning. In addition to speaking to the admissions person at OC's skilled nursing, she has also contacted the social worker there (I assume that was Nita Aines, but forgot her name and didn't think to ask until after the call); she explained Dad's living and social situation at OC to the social worker, stressing that she felt his rehabilitation would be greatly facilitated by how happy and comfortable he would likely be there. I have subsequently left a message for Nita, reminding her who we all are, and asking her to call to discuss Dad's situation with me. I'm hoping that if there is no bed for him there, she may be able to recommend a temporary alternative, with the goal of moving him to OC as soon as a bed frees up. In any case, she may be a good source of recommendations of alternatives.
I also told Lisa what we are doing to come up with additional places for her to pursue, and specifically asked that she follow up with the Hebrew Rehab in Roslindale, which is directly affiliated with OC. (It was not on the list she gave me because it is not in the South Shore). She will contact them immediately, but asked for additional places by Friday. Hopefully, Shula and/or Nita will help us there.
- Maayan spoke with her connection in Boston (mother of the kids she used to babysit; lawyer in the health care field - works with Hebrew Life...) She (Jennifer Gallop) reinforced the fact that she thinks OC would be by far the best solution. Offered to help if we have difficulties. I will ask Maayan to follow up with her to see if she could make a call on our behalf - I don't see how it could hurt...
- Received a message from Michael Spector, culinary director at OC. He has no idea why I was sent to him, as the residence contract clearly stipulates that there is absolutely no credit offered when residents are away for any reason, including medical. On the other hand, it turns out that he was the management person on duty when Dad had the stroke, and was the one who responded with the nurse. He is anxious to hear about Dad, and would like to give him a call to say hello. I will speak with him later today to let him know that it is fine to call Dad.
- Sent out all the current bills today (AMEX, VA, Temple Israel). My only concern is on the one that Dad pays by credit card (VA) - it requires a signature, so I signed and added my name and "POA" next to it. Hopefully there will not be any problems. Will pat Dec OC bill when I am there, hopefully tomorrow afternoon.
TTFN.
